Bundling of Cellulose Nanofibers in PEO Matrix by Aqueous Electrospinning

Cellulose nanofiber (CNF), which is processed by refining wood fiber, a promising biomass-derived material with excellent properties, including high strength and light weight. CNFs can be applied to fillers, films, thickeners. Highly oriented integrated used produce ultra-high-strength ultra-lightweight materials that surpass wood; however, precise alignment of CNF still difficult. In this study, mechanically-defibrated suspensions supplemented polyethylene oxide (PEO), good spinnable polymer, were electrospun obtain fiber bundles, their properties characterized. When dispersed in PEO aqueous solution subject electrospinning, sheet was obtained. As shown tensile test experiment, the elastic modulus improved as content increased, while TEM observations showed bundled along axial direction. These results demonstrated using inside fine fibers, leading realization high-strength bundle highly oriented.
